Senapati forest division holds spot painting contest

Senapati Forest Division observed the International Day for Biological Diversity at the district level on Saturday at St Anthony 'sSchool, Senapati, by conducting an on-the-spot painting competition.
A total of 67 students of Class IX to Class XII from nine different schools across the district participated in the event.
The observance was held under the theme for this year, as declared by the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) - "Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development", focusing on the importance of biodiversity in achieving sustainable development goals.
"By organising this event, we hope to encourage young minds to express their thoughts and ideas creatively, promoting sustainable practices for the conservation of nature," the department said.
Marine Phimu of Class IX from Mave School bagged the 1st prize in the painting competition.
The 2nd prize was awarded to Vivila Maizamo of Class IX from Mt Everest Higher Secondary School, and Asavi T of Class X from Lao Radiant School.
Mercia Thoitak of Class IX from Brookedale School, and Philarin Konghar of Class IX from Lao Radiant School jointly secured the 3rd prize.
In addition, Ngahanyui Jajo of Glass X from St Anthony's School; Nakhi of Class XII from New Life Higher Secondary School; Relief Kashung of Class IX from Mt Everest Higher Secondary School; Jeaffina Rai of Class X from Don Bosco; and Rakhune Anne of Class X from St Anthony's School were awarded consolation prizes.
"Harmony with nature and sustainable development" are closely intertwined concepts that emphasise the need to balance human activities with the preservation and protection of the natural world, the Senapati Forest Division stated, urging citizens to embrace a mindset that respects and protects nature and promotes community-led conservation efforts.
The paintings by these young students beautifully captured the importance of protecting the planet's biodiversity, it said, seeking collective action for its preservation.
