Imphal, March 09 2025:
The Kuki Women's Organisation for Human Rights (KWOHR) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Lalgouthang Singsit, whom the organisation claimed as a victim of brutal actions by central para-military forces at Keithelmanbi Military Colony (KMC) in Kangpokpi district on Saturday.
Condemning alleged lack of empathy from the government, KWOHR stated that the loss could have been prevented had authorities understood the plight of the Kuki community.
The organisation extended condolences and solidarity to the grieving family, praying for their strength in this difficult time.
KWOHR, in a statement, strongly opposed the "Free Movement" policy imposed by the authorities in the state, calling it an example of the government's indifference and failure to address the struggles of the Kuki people.
It criticised the attempt to bring normalcy without resolving the root causes of the crisis, calling it a populist move that sacrifices the Kuki community.
The group asserted that such actions are unacceptable in any democratic society that values humanity.
Raising concerns over lawlessness in the valley districts, KWOHR pointed out that weapons looted from the state's armoury have been used in attacks on Kuki villagers.
It denounced claims that the situation has been addressed, stressing that surrendering a few assault rifles does not resolve the deeper issues of violence and threats to Kuki lives.
KWOHR also likened the imposition of President's Rille to a public relations strategy meant to cover up injustices and accused the government of erasing the suffering of the Kuki people from historical records.
It stated that the Kuki community will remain a reminder of the failure of both the Modi and Biren governments.
Condemning the actions of central military forces against peaceful women protesters, KWOHR asserted that while the Kuki community may be small, they possess the solidarity and strength to resist oppression, just as they did against the British Empire.
The organisation reaffirmed that a political solution must precede peace in the region, reiterating its demand for a Union Territory with Legislatures as the only acceptable resolution.
