Urban FD launches 76th Van Mahotsav

Imphal, July 01 2025: As part of the 76th Van Mahotsav celebrations, the Urban Forestry Division of the Forest Department launched a week-long programme of plantation and free distribution of tree saplings in and around Imphal.

Led by divisional forest officer M Wungrin Lansing, officials distributed saplings to the public in Konung Mamang area in Imphal East.

A plantation drive was also carried out along the medians of the National Highway from Canchipur to Lilong.

Aribam Premananda Sharma, an official of the Urban Forestry Division, said that the initiative aims to address environmental degradation caused by rapid urbanisation and pollution.

He added that the department plans to implement further measures to make Imphal and its surrounding areas greener and more sustainable.

Van Mahotsav, also known as the "Festival of Forests", is being observed from July 1 to 7 under the theme "Lend a Hand to Make Our Manipur Greener" .

The week-long celebration focuses on tree planting and raising awareness about the importance of forest conservation.
