MCWU clarifies on MGU statement

Imphal, May 28 2025: Manipur Gorkha Welfare Union (MGWU), Kanglatongbi, an apex body representing Manipuri Gorkhas, has strongly condemned the 'inflammatory' statement issued by a 'fictitious' group 'Manipur Gorkha Union (MGU)', signed by an imaginary person, Bhanu Pratap Rai.

In a release, MGWU Information & Publicity Wing clarified that the MGU and individuals concerned are completely non-existent and have no recognition or mandate of the Gorkha community.

"Their divisive and communal rhetoric amid the ongoing Kuki-Meetei conflict is highly irresponsible and threatens to destabilise inter-community harmony," it said.

The Information & Publicity Wing also expressed deep concern over a recent news video using an official photograph of MGWU members in a report about the fake MGU .

"This is a serious misrepresentation that misleads the public and damages the image of MGWU.

We demand an immediate correction and urge media houses to practice journalistic integrity and due diligence," maintained the Wing.

Reiterating its neutral stance and commitment to peace, MGWU cautioned all individuals from the Gorkha community to refrain from making or sharing provocative con tent, failing which strict disciplinary and legal action will be initiated.

"Let it be clear, MGU does not represent us, and such malicious attempts to misuse the Gorkha identify will riot be tolerated," asserted the MGWU .
