Imphal, August 19 2025: A two-day workshop on "Promoting Manipuri Language to the Level of a Classical Language" concluded at NG Mani College, Khurai on Tuesday.

The programme was organised by the Manipuri and English departments along with the IQAC cell of the college, under the sponsorship of the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) .

On the final day, retired professor W Nabakumar of Manipur University's Anthropology department delivered a lecture on the relationship between language and culture.

Retired professor Ch Yashwanta of the MU Linguistics Department spoke on Manipuri as a potential classical language, while assistant professor Dr L Anand of MU Manipuri department highlighted the benefits of attaining classical language status.

The event concluded with an interactive session involving resource persons, teachers, research scholars and students.
