Imphal, June 19 2025:
The Department of Teacher Education, Manipur University on Thursday conducted an educational held visit and community contact programme at Houreng Chingyang Community Hall, Thanga village as part of its Community Contact Program for the 2024-25 academic session.
The event was attended by functionaries of United Club Thanga, including the vice-president, and All Thanga Apunba Meira Paibi Lup, including the president, secretary, co-convener and treasurer, along with faculty members from the department.
During the programme, trainees were divided into four groups to carry out field surveys through door-to-door visits.
The surveys aim to collect data on local livelihoods and lifestyle practices.
Programme coordinator associate professor Dr Chongtham Tomba said that the objective was to promote the idea that teachers should contribute meaningfully to the community.
He added that a detailed report of the held survey will be submitted to Manipur University, which will recommend steps to relevant authorities to improve condition of the local population.
As part of the visit, the team also went to a relief camp at Thanga Chingkha community hall where they donated educational materials, clothing and food items.
A prayer for peace and normalcy was held by teaching and non-teaching staff as well as trainees.
The department had carried out similar outreach activities last year, providing relief materials to various camps under its community initiative.
