NABARD lauded for aiding state's growth

The 44th Foundation Day of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Manipur Regional Office, Imphal, was celebrated Tuesday at Sangai Hall, Hotel Imphal.
Dr Anupam Mishra, vice chancellor, Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal; Thaithuilung Pamei, commissioner, Department of Horticulture; Abhay Kumar, chairman, Manipur Rural Bank; W Ibohal Singh, RCS, Imphal; and Partha Mandal, GM/OIC, NABARD Manipur RO, Imphal, attended the celebration as chief guest, guests of honour, special invitees, and presidential dais members, respectively.

In his address, Dr Anupam Mishra commended NABARD for its exceptional role in India's rural transformation and comprehensive approach to development-spanning credit facilitation, infrastructure building, supervision of rural banks, and the empowerment of grassroots institutions.
Highlighting the significance of rural credit and cooperative strengthening, the chief guest further appreciated the implementation of "Sahakar se Samriddhi", including the digitisation of Primary Agricultural Co-operative Societies (PACS) and support for multipurpose cooperatives.
He also noted NABARD's involvement in the Geographical Indication (GI) registration of indigenous products like Kouna Craft and Senga, a move that helps preserve Manipur's cultural heritage.
Dr Anupam emphasised NABARD's initiatives under its financial, developmental, and supervisory roles, which profoundly impact every facet of the rural economy.
He specifically highlighted NABARD's work in Manipur and the North Eastern Region, particularly in promoting sustainable agriculture, organic farming, rural infrastructure, and support for artisans and SHGs.
The vice chancellor also acknowledged the growing partnership between NABARD anti CAU, Imphal, particularly in areas such as youth training, rural entrepreneurship, and technological interventions like solar spice units and biomass dryers.
He expressed pride in NABARD employing CAU graduates and reaffirmed the institutions' mutual commitment to building a prosperous rural India.
Concluding his speech, he called for continued cooperation to transform the rural economy and help India become a developed nation by 2047.Delivering the welcome address, NABARD Manipur RO general manager Partha Mandal, highlighted that NABARD has played a pivotal role in the rural development of Manipur by supporting agriculture, infrastructure, and livelihood initiatives.
He added that its programmes aim to promote sustainable development, financial inclusion, and self-reliance among rural communities.
The general manager further stated that among its various programmes, the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF), Watershed Development and WADI Projects, Financial Inclusion Initiatives, Skill Development and Livelihood Pro motion, Tribal Development Fund (TDF), Climate-Re-, silient and Sustainable Agriculture, Off-Farm Sector and Marketing Support, and Capacity Building and Awareness Programmes are actively being implemented in the state.
As part of the function, a brochure showcasing NABARD's initiatives was released, along with the felicitation of Best Performing PACS/M-PACS.
A presentation on initiatives and achievements by Lily Rose Jajo, director, UDCRMS, Ukhrul, was also a key highlight of the day's event.
