Jiribam, December 14 2024:
COCOMI, Jiribam Branch organised a sit-in protest for the second day at Jiribam Sorok Atingbi Khunnou community hall on Saturday, demanding the authorities concerned to locate missing Laishram Kamalbabu at the earliest.
The sit-in also demanded the government to publicly punish the culprits involved in killing of the six women and children in Borobekra and penalise the person who murdered Khundrakpam Athouba while calling for repeal of AFSPA from Jiribam.
Speaking to media persons, a Meira Paibi activist stated that they staged the sit-in protest to decry the central and state governments' handling of the ongoing conflict in the state.
Lamenting that there has been no trace of L Kamalbabu who went missing from Leimakhong military camp on November 25, she urged for locating and handing him over to his family as soon as possible.
The protestor also expressed that people are agitated over the government's inaction in connection to the brutal murder of six persons whose bodies were thrown in to Barak river, after they were abducted from Borobekra.
She also demanded that former SSP (combat) Nectar Sanjenbam, who killed student Kh Athouba while he was protesting in connection to the Borobekra incident, should be sent to jail and not to be released without consulting Jiribam public.
The Meira Paibi activist further contended that if the central and state governments do not heed the public voice, then the people would take it upon themselves to protect their own land as done in the past when Manipur was independent.
During the protest, the agitators held placards with slogans such as 'We Want Peace', 'We oppose Kamalbabu going missing of from Army camp' and 'Save innocent people, release Laishram Kamalbabu immediately' .
