Paddy fields drying up due to shortage of water: PALL

Thoubal, May 13 2025: Selom Loukol farmers of Pechi, Charangpat and Wangkhem are facing acute shortage of water due to non-release of water from Yairipok canal.

In a statement, Pechi Apunba Loumee Lup has stated that due to non-release of water from the canal, the paddy fields of Pechi, Charangpat and Wangkhem are drying up and the crops are failing.

With the canal supplying water last year, the farmers of Pechi Selom Loukol were able to take up double-cropping and the yield was high.

However, this year when the crops are about to bear fruits, there is a drought-like situation, failing vast tracts of crops, PALL said, appealing to the authorities concerned to immediately release the water from the canal to address the plight of the farmers.
