Curfew-exempted food deliverers detained

Imphal, May 13 2021:
Although the state government had included food delivery services as one of the activities exempted from the purview of the curfew imposed for containing Covid-19 pandemic, a team of Imphal West District Police on Thursday detained some of the delivery service providers near Sagolband Tera Bazar.
On Thursday evening, two video clippings went viral on social media showing the police personnel on duty near Sagolband Tera Bazar detaining some food delivery service providers.
In this regard, many food delivery service providers pointed out that owing to the curfew, people have been staying inside their homes and have been ordering food, groceries and other essential items through them.
The delivery service providers, despite the risk to their lives, have been extending assistance to the people while strictly adhering to the Covid-19 guidelines of the government.
As such, they conveyed that it is demoralising that the police detained the service providers.
On the other hand, 237 people were detained for violating Covid-19 guidelines and a total fine amounting to Rs 89,650 was collected on Thursday, a release by Manipur Police Department Covid-19 nodal officer IG-P(Ops) E Priyokumar Singh has informed.
