College hosts workshop on silkworm rearing

Senapati, July 11 2025:
The Department of Zoology, Mount Everest College, in collaboration with the Directorate of Sericulture, Government of Nagaland, organised a one-day workshop on "Rearing of Silkworm" at Smart Hall, Mount Everest College, on Friday 11 .
The workshop was a follow-up of the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Directorate of Sericulture (Nagaland) and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Mount Everest College, Senapati.
The workshop aims to promote practical knowledge and skill-based training in sericulture, providing participants with hands-on experience in silkworm rearing and exploring sustainable livelihood opportunities.

Vilhousienuo Khro, district sericulture officer, Kohima, delivered a keynote lecture highlighting Nagaland's progress in Muga silk development under Silk Samagra-1 & 2 .
She also detailed the life cycle, benefits, and products of eri and other silkworm varieties.
During the interaction session, students and faculty raised questions on silkworm consumption, health benefits, training programmes, and marketing, which were addressed by the speaker.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from assistant professor Lishine, who expressed gratitude to the Directorate and IQAC for their collaboration.
The workshop was moderated by Liziine Caryn, 3rd Semester Zoology student, and formally welcomed by L Lungshila, head of the Department of Zoology.
Attended by the principal, faculty, and students, the workshop promoted sericulture practices and sustainable livelihoods, while supporting students' learning in line with the NEP syllabus for the undergraduate Zoology programme.
