Kakching, July 22 2024:
The commemoration ceremony for Irengbam Chingkheinganba and Sagolsem Nganleiba Meitei, who were allegedly abducted and brutally killed by armed Kuki militants, took place on Monday.
The event was held at the memorial site near Sekmaijin Khunou Lampak, where floral tributes were offered to their photos as a mark of respect.
Joint Action Committee against the killing of Irengbam Chingkheinganba Meitei and Sagolsem Nganleiba Meitei by Kuki Militants, convenor Thingujam Kiran expressed deep disappointment that authorities have not taken any action despite video footage of their killings circulated on social media over a year ago.
He emphasised the urgent need for the authorities to identify and punish those responsible for such heinous act.
It may be mentioned that on July 4, 2023, Chingkheinganba s/o Irengbam Dhana and Nganleiba Meitei s/o Sagolsem Ibochou, both residents of Sekmaijin Khunou, went missing after leaving their homes to volunteer in protecting Meetei villages.
They were last heard around 4 pm the same day, with footages showing them shot in the head emerging on social media the following day.
