UK varsity's Jayanta Manoharmayum named for RIST award

Research Institute of Science and Technology (RIST) has named professor Jayanta Manoharmayum of University of Sheffield, UK, as the inaugural recipient of RIST Distinguished Scientist Award, 2025 .
In a release, RIST information and public relations Dr Raheijuddin Sheikh informed that its executive council unanimously resolved on July 16 to institute "RIST Distinguished Scientist Award" - a new annual honour recognising exceptional scientists and mathematicians of Manipuri origin working domestically and abroad.
The award aims to celebrate outstanding research contributions in science and mathematics while inspiring the state's youth to pursue scientific excellence.
Professor Manoharmayum Jayanta, son of late Manoharmayum Brajamani Sharma, is honoured for his ground-breaking work in Number Theory.
His research resolved the long-standing inverse deformation problem and pioneered methods to lift Galois representations to characteristic zero for GLn, significantly advancing deformation theory and pro-finite group representations, the release added.
The award ceremony will be held on July 25 at the conference hall of Physics Department, Manipur University.
Professor Jayanta will deliver a commemorative lecture titled "Some Mathematics of Euler" following the presentation.
"Through this award, RIST seeks to elevate Manipur's scientific legacy on the global' stage," stated RIST director Dr N Nimai Singh, inviting young researchers, students, and public to attend/witness the ceremony.
