Bishnupur, December 18 2024:
Maintaining that no community can surpass or suppress the Meeteis when mothers of Manipur unite to lead their sons, MU Manipuri Department assistant professor Dr Naorem Sanatomba Meitei has appealed to the state's womenfolk to act as caring mothers of village volunteers, rather than mothering the MLAs and ministers.
Dr Sanatomba made the appeal at the day-long public discussion on 'role of women in present chaotic situation in Manipur' organised jointly by Karang Apunba Meira Paibi Lup and United Worn en Development Organisation (UWDO), Bishnupur at Ibudhou Khuman Pokpa community hall in Karang island.
The discourse was also attended by United Women Development Organisation president N Bimola Leima, Karang Meira Paibi president N Babita, COCOMI Women's Wing coordinator W Luwangleima, BAAL, Bishnupur president L Devachand and K Padamabati among others.
Dr Sanatomba asserted that Meeteis cannot be defeated by any community when the mothers of Manipur unite to lead their sons.
He, however, cautioned that if civil society organisations focus solely on showcasing their power, fruition of their objective will remain elusive.
In the current crisis, with Kuki militants waging war on Manipur, it is not the time for the womenfolk to shield ministers and MLAs as their mothers.
Instead, the women of Manipur must rally behind and lead their sons, who are defending their villages and the state, by instilling in them the highest discipline.
Only through such united action would the Meetei win respect and reverence, he stressed, appealing to all organisations to strive for unifying and strengthening the mothers of the land.
On the occasion, the Karang branch of the United Women Development Organisation (UWDO) was also formed.
