Panel to probe Jiribam incident

Imphal, November 18 2024:
In the aftermath of a violent clash between protestors and security forces near Jiribam police station on Sunday night, which left one protestor dead and another injured, the state government has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
The altercation occurred when a special commando team, led by senior SP (combat) Nectar confronted demonstrators in the area.
Reports indicated that the use of force during the confrontation resulted in injuries to two protestors, with one succumbing later.
The Inquiry Committee will be chaired by IGP (Intelligence ) Kabib K, with DIG (Range-Ill) Ningshen Worngam as member.
The committee's mandate includes examining the causes and circumstances that led to the clash, identifying any contributing factors, and determining whether misconduct or foul play by authorities played a role in escalating the situation.
The committee is expected to submit its findings within 30 days.
As an immediate measure, the service of SSP (combat) Nectar Sanjenbam has been discontinued.
