RIMS observes World Hypertension Day at Cheirap Court complex

Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, marked World Hypertension Day 2025 by organising a health awareness programme at Cheirap Court Complex, Uripok, for advocates, women members, and senior members of the bar.
According to a statement issued by RIMS Media Cell, the programme was held under the global theme, "Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It, Live Longer", and aimed to raise awareness about hypertension and promote healthy living among members of the legal community.
Senior advocate Khaidem Mani, senior advocate Ng Premkumar, and head of RIMS Neurology department professor Dr Th Suraj Singh were present at the event.
In his address, Dr Suraj stressed the importance of hypertension awareness, particularly for senior advocates, and highlighted how preventive measures and lifestyle changes can reduce the risk of non-communicable diseases.
He noted the event was part of an effort to sensitize legal professionals about managing stress and improving overall health.
Participants underwent free health check-ups including blood pressure monitoring, blood sugar testing, and ECG examinations.
Medical personnel from the RIMS department of Medicine provided consultations and counselling, and free medicines were distributed.
Senior advocate Khaidem Mani praised the initiative, saying if was both timely and necessary, particularly in light of the ongoing unrest and the increasing burden of stress-related health issues in the state.
He added that the initiative would go a long way in supporting senior citizens and legal professionals in managing their health.
The program also featured health talks by RIMS department of community medicine assistant professor Dr Soubam Christina, and Dr Sin-gamlung Kamei, who spoke on hypertension prevention and practical lifestyle tips, the statement added.
