Some JNIMS wards to remain shut; KU extends support

Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) has announced that some of its wards on the ground floor will remain closed as the hospital continues recovery efforts following recent floods that inundated its compound and the ground floor.
In a circular issued Monday, JNIMS medical superintendent stated that new patient admissions to the medicine ward, Intensive Cardiac Care Unit (ICCU), and Medical Intensive Care Unit (M1CU) will remain suspended until further notice due to technical issues caused by the flooding.
The circular also informed that all orthopaedic surgeries stand cancelled for the time being until further notice.
Meanwhile, Khongnangthaba University has stepped in to support JNIMS in its post-flood recovery efforts.
The University highlighted its contribution in a press release issued on Monday, stating that more than 200 students and staff participated in a large-scale social service campaign to clean and sanitise the affected areas of the hospital.
Volunteer's included administrative staff, faculty members, and students from the College of Nursing, College of Pharmacy, and College of Paramedical under the Kangleipak Medical & Nursing Institute (KMNI).
The cleaning initiative was carried out in close coordination with JNIMS administration and faculty, focusing on waste disposal, disinfecting patient areas, and restoring hygienic conditions necessary for the resumption of hospital services.
"This effort embodies the values we inculcate in our students of service, responsibility, and active citizenship," said registrar Dr Atom Sunil Singh.
He expressed gratitude to the volunteers for their contribution and reaffirmed the university's commitment to serving the people of Manipur in times of crisis.
