Two dead, one hospitalised after drinking pesticide

Imphal, July 13 2024: At least two people were left dead and another hospitalised after the three of them mistakenly consumed pesticide atn Kakching Chum-nang Leikai Samballei Pareng in Kakching district on Friday.

The two deceased have been identified as Yengkhom Nildhwaja (75) and Yengkhom Ibomcha (82) of Kakching Chumnang Leikai Samballei Pareng, while the hospitalised person as Naorem Ibotombi, from the same locality.

According to police report, all three of them were drinking alcohol at Nildhwaja's residence at around 10.25 pm on Friday.

After running out of alcohol, they brought out a plastic bottle filled with supposedly local liquor from inside the house.

However, upon drinking the content, it was found to be pesticide and all three were rushed to the nearby hospital.

While Nildhwaja and Ibomcha failed to respond to treatment and passed away, Ibotombi is currently undergoing treatment at Jivan Hospital.

Meanwhile, the post mortem examinations of Nildhwaja and Ibomcha have been conducted at JNIMS hospital.
