Awareness on food fortification, safety held

To promote the concept of fortified foods and enhance safety, quality, and nutritional value of food distributed through government schemes, a one day awareness programme was held on Sunday under the supervision of the district administration.
The awareness programme on "Food Fortification and Good Manufacturing & Good Hygienic Practices" was organised by Kakching Food Safety Administration in collaboration with ICDS Project, Social Welfare Department, at the Library and Information Centre auditorium, Kakching.
The programme highlighted the importance of fortified foods, which are enriched with essential vitamins and minerals.
Experts at the event explained that fortified foods improve the safety, quality, and nutritional value of food distributed through Anganwadi centres.
The programme was attended by Kakching CMO Dr Th Rajen Singh as chief guest, ICDS district programme officer Ningthoujam Parango Singh as functional president, and food safety designated officer N Debendro Singh as guest of honour.
Food safety officer S Surendro Singh delivered a presentation on "Food Fortification and Good Manufacturing and Hygienic Practices", emphasising the role of fortified food in combating nutritional deficiencies.
It was followed by a demonstration on food sample testing by state food analyst of the medical directorate Ch Sanajaoba Meitei.
ICDS supervisor Nongthombam Pushpalata moderated the programme, which was attended by Anganwadi workers, helpers, officials, and others.
