Rhythms of Manipur celebrates 40th anniversary

Imphal, July 10 2025: Rhythms of Manipur celebrated its 40th Foundation Day on Thursday at the Manipuri Jagoi Marup complex, Lamboi Khongnangkhong.

The event was held with JNM Dance Academy director P Bilash as chief guest, Rhythms of Manipur president Likmabam Maniba-bu as functional president, and Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Yumnam Sadananda as the guest of honour.

Speaking on the occasion, P Bilash noted the positive shift in public perception towards artistes.

"Earlier, artistes were looked down upon, but today, they are proud of their profession and are respected by society," he said.

The director further highlighted that many academically bright students are now pursuing careers in dance and music, although some parents still discourage their children from entering these fields, which he described as unfortunate.

Bilash also pointed out that there are now ample opportunities for students to build careers in the performing arts, with scholarships available and academic pathways extending to undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels in dance and music.
