Logistics sector in state given industry status

Imphal, June 10 2025: In order to encourage investments in logistics sector, industry status in Manipur has been accorded to the 'Logistics' sector with approval in this regard reportedly given on May 29.The proposal was taken up in pursuance of the recommendations of the Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC), Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, for integration of Industry 4.0 in manufacturing and strengthening of logistics in the North Eastern Region.

Manipur holds a high potential as a strategic economic corridor in the North-Eastern Region due to its geographic location, Act East Policy linkages and improving infrastructure.

Being the gateway to South East Asia, Manipur is central to the India's strategy of economic and strategic integration with ASEAN countries.

Government is investing heavily in connectivity, trade infrastructure and cross border cooperation.

Thus, development of logistics park and related infrastructure at the exit-entry points of the state is the need of the hour.

Consequent upon the grant of industry status, all logistics and warehousing units established or to be established in the state of Manipur will become eligible to avail benefits and incentives under the extant Manipur Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy 2022 and other relevant schemes of the state government.
