Bishnupur, August 05 2025:
Members of Brilliance School Van Service Union staged a sit-in protest at the school's gate on Tuesday against monetary demand served to them.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the protest, a member driver pointed that the ongoing crisis in the state has severely affected ability of many parents to pay van service fees regularly.
"This has created financial difficulties for the van operators as well, who continue to provide transport services despite the challenges," he said.
The driver also highlighted that the situation is exacerbated during bandhs and blockades, as they are often compelled to purchase fuel from the black market at inflated prices to ensure uninterrupted service for school-going children.
"Most of us are educated but unemployed youths trying to earn a decent livelihood through this van service.
We take extra care of the students after they are handed over to us by their parents," the driver explained, asserting that it is deeply unfortunate that even during such difficult times, the van drivers' union is being subjected to monetary demands.
The protesting van service providers called for immediate withdrawal of the demand and urged authorities concerned to intervene in the matter.
