Imphal, May 29 2025:
The All Manipur Working Journalists' Union and Editors' Guild Manipur have decided to stick to their decision taken on May 21 to black out State Government and Central security forces related news.
In a statement, AMWJU and EGM said that a joint meeting of the Standing Committee and Executive Committee of AMWJU and EGM respectively was held today at 4 pm and deliberated on a letter sent by the Chief Secretary to withdraw the boycott of State Government news in connection with the Gwaltabi incident.
While sharing the concern of the Government to resolve the matter at the earliest, the meeting, after detailed discussion, resolved to request the Government to put into action two resolutions adopted at the emergency general body meeting of AMWJU and EGM held on May 21 .
The two resolutions adopted at the emergency general body meeting were modification of the terms of reference ofthe Enquiry Committee constituted by the Government to probe the Gwaltabi incident to include identification of the officers at fault leading to the incident, and redeployment of the security personnel deployed at Gwaltabi.
Even though the Chief Secretary was intimated of these resolutions, no action has been taken so far in this regard, the joint meeting noted and decided to request the Chief Secretary afresh to act on the two resolutions to enable AMWJU and EGM call a general body meeting to consider modifications ofthe earlier resolutions.
In the meantime, the earlier decisions to boycott State Government news will remain in effect, said a press release issued by AMWJU .
