Imphal, October 28 2025:
Teaching, non-teaching staff and students of Kamakhya Pemton College, Hiyangthang today staged a protest demonstration in front of the college gate against unbearable monetary demands.
The protesters used placards which read as "promote educational institutes", "don't harass/intimidate educational institutes", "don't serve unbearable monetary demands to educational institutes" etc.
One of the teachers said that the college's academic atmosphere has been severely vitiated and normal activities have been derailed on account of an unbearable monetary demand made by some people.
It is rather unfortunate that both teachers and nonteaching staff have been intimidated in connection with the monetary demand, the teacher said.
Kamakhya Pemton College was a private college until 2023 when it became a Government-aided college.
The grant given by the Government is too little and it is not enough to even pay salaries of teaching and nonteaching staff, he said.
With the little money given by the Government, the college has been struggling really hard.
As for the new infrastructure being constructed, they are funded by the Centre under the UGC.
It is really unfortunate that a huge, unbearable monetary demand was served to the college just by seeing the new infrastructure, the teacher said.
The college has been working hard to open 7th and 8th semesters of 10 departments as per the New Education Policy (NEP), he said.
He also appealed to all sections of the society to contribute to the development of the college and make all educational institutes a disturbance free zone.
He further appealed to the Government to understand the difficulties being endured by Kamakhya Pemton College and adopt it as a full fledged Government college at the earliest.
