Imphal, June 27 2025:
The Katho Katamnao Long and the Tangkhul Naga Valley Students' Association have served an ultimatum to produce the miscreants involved in a mob attack on a passenger vehicle within 24 hours or else movement of Kukis along Imphal-Ukhrul road and in Ukhrul district will not be allowed.
The Katho Katamnao Long and the Tangkhul Naga Valley Students' Association have vehemently condemned the attack on an Ukhrul-bound passenger vehicle (Winger) by a Kuki mob and the assault on its driver and passengers at Mongkot Chepu village on June 26, 2025 .
A woman passenger and the Winger driver were injured in the attack, said a press release issued by the Katho Katamnao Long and the Tangkhul Naga Valley Students' Association.
It alleged that the chief of Mongkot Chepu village, under the influence of alcohol, too threatened the passengers.
This is not the first instance where the war-mongering Kuki community residing along Ukhrul-Imphal road has engaged in such unwarranted actions against commuters, it said.
"Despite our repeated efforts to foster peace in the region, these Kukis have consistently proven that they do not genuinely seek peace and continue to provoke conflict.
Ever since the May 3, 2023 incident, our efforts to live in peace and cordial harmony have been overlooked and often seen as weakness and cowardice", it said.
To prevent further escalation and conflicts, the Tangkhul Naga Long has been issuing press releases and ultimatums since 2023, instructing that no one should disturb passengers.
However, the TNL's numerous meetings and understanding with Kuki village chiefs seemed to have been overlooked and discarded by the Kuki villages residing along Ukhrul-Imphal road (NH-202) .
In light of the Mongkot Chepu incident and the continued defiant attitude and repeated warnings as well as the frequent harassment and disturbance meted out to travellers, the Katho Katamnao Long and the Tangkhul Naga Valley Students' Association have asked all concerned to produce the miscreants involved in Thursday's incident within 24 hours.
Failure to comply with the ultimatum will result in serious and unbearable consequences, it said.
"We will also completely block the movement of Kukis along Imphal-Ukhrul road, and no Kuki movement will be allowed in Ukhrul district.
Further actions will be taken until our ultimatum is met", it added.
