Imphal, May 27 2025:
Ex-Chief Minister N Biren today called on Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and the two discussed the current turbulent situation and the political unrest.
On the other hand, the MLAs who have been demanding election of a new Chief Minister would hold a meeting with the Governor on Wednesday morning.
Biren and Ajay Kumar Bhalla held a meeting at the Raj Bhavan at around 6.30 pm today and the meeting lasted for 45 minutes.
Later speaking to media persons at his Luwangshangbam residence, N Biren said that he and Bhalla talked about resettlement of IDPs at their homes, opening of highways and disarming all the armed people of both the hills and the valley.
The Gwaltabi issue and the resulting protest movement were also discussed at the meeting, Biren said.
According to Biren, the Governor felt very sad about the Gwaltabi incident in which the word "Manipur" painted on an MST bus was forcibly covered up.
"I appealed to the Governor to take up necessary action and bring an end to the ongoing protest movement", the ex-Chief Minister said.
A memorandum was also submitted to the Governor on identification of illegal immigrants from Myanmar, he said.
On being enquired about forming a popular Government, N Biren said that he highlighted the people's desire for a popular Government and urged Ajay Kumar Bhalla to see that a popular Government is installed at the earliest.
"I also suggested election of a popular leader as the Chief Minister of Manipur", he added.
