Students, guardians march to Health Directorate

Imphal, July 21 2025: Worried over the authority's failure to publish the list of Manipur students who have cleared National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2025, a group of students and guardians today marched to the Directorate of Health Services, Lamphelpat.

The students and the guardians urged the Health Directorate to publish the merit list and initiate due process for registration and counselling.

One Phijam Brojen, father of a NEET 2025 successful candidate, said that the results of NEET 2025 were declared on June 14 but the State authority has been giving no attention to the due process which should be initiated thereafter.

Seats under all India quota or State quota must be determined based on the merit list and online registration must be done for counselling before going for admission, he said.

"Due process of counselling has already started in other States but even the merit list has not been published in Manipur", Brojen said.

The four medical colleges located in Manipur namely; JNIMS, Churachandpur Medical College, RIMS and Shija Academy of Health Sciences have a total of 525 MBBS seats.

JNIMS has 150, Churachandpur Medical College 100, RIMS 125 and Shija 150.A notification issued by the National Medical Council (NMC), on July 19 said, "All institutes and counselling committees are advised to fill the seats strictly as per the matrix provided by NMC" .

Pointing out that Manipur is quite prone to violence and other law and order problems, Phijam Brojen asked what will happen to the NEET 2025 successful candidates of Manipur if the internet is shut down suddenly because of any unseen law and order problem.

Expressing deep disappointment over the Health Directorate's lethargic and lackadaisical attitude, Brojen appealed to the Health Directorate to publish the merit list and initiate other due processes without any further delay.

Notably, 73 students of Manipur who have cleared Foreign Medical Graduate Examination have been facing a serious problem as they have not been given internship opportunities.
