Members of the North East Indian diaspora in the United Kingdom celebrated the region's rich cultural heritage during the United Colours of North East India Festival 2026, held at the Indian Gymkhana Club in London on July 11 .
The event was organised by North East Indians in UK (NEIUK) with support from Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma, head of Tripura's erstwhile royal family.

The organiser said the event aimed to promote the region's unique identity while strengthening bonds among members of the diaspora and introducing North East India's cultural richness to a global audience. Susan Nonsieg from Meghalaya said the festival served as a bridge for cross-cultural understanding by bringing the region's living traditions and heritage to the world.
Thoiba Thoudam of Manipur said the initiative was envisioned as a platform to connect people from North East India and friends of the region through food, music, handloom and cultural exchanges.
The festival helped address misconceptions about North East India among international audiences while fostering networking and collaboration among professionals, entrepreneurs, artists, students and families from the North Eastern diaspora in the UK .
Described as the first event of its kind in London to celebrate all eight North Eastern States on such a large scale, the festival attracted more than 500 attendees, it added.
The organiser highlighted the enthusiastic participation of second-generation members of the diaspora, expressing hope that younger generations will continue to preserve and promote the region's cultural identity for years to come.
