Youth shoots cousin to death

Imphal, May 18 2025: n a rare and shocking incident, a 23 year old youth shot an elder cousin to death in their own courtyard at Naoremthong Khumanthem Leikai, Lane No 2, Imphal West under Lamphel police station.

According to information culled from the locality, the incident happened last night at around 9.30 when Leishangthem Yaiphaba (23) s/o Thoithoi shot his elder cousin Leishangthem Devson (32) s/o (L) Guneshwar of Naoremthong Khumanthem Leikai Lane Number 2 on the chest following a heated argument between the two in their own courtyard.

Even as Devson was rushed to RIMS Hospital for treatment, the doctor on duty declared that he was brought dead.

The dead body was deposited at JNIMS morgue for post mortem last night.

On the other hand, Yaiphaba was also arrested by police and an airgun rifle was seized from his possession.

Yaiphaba was later handed over to Lamphel police station for necessary legal procedure.

An FIR case has also been registered at the same police station against the accused for further investigation.

The accused was produced before a Duty Magistrate, Imphal West today along with a prayer for police custody remand.

The Duty Magistrate, after hearing the submission of the IO, remanded the accused in police custody till May 22.Meanwhile, the dead body of Devson has been handed over to family members after post mortem at JNIMS morgue in presence of a Duty Magistrate with full video coverage.
