Imphal, May 16 2025:
Altogether seven AK-47 rifles, one RPG launcher, one M4 rifle and four single-barrel breech-loading (SBBL) rifles, ammunition and other items have been recovered from the site where a heavy exchange of fire took place between Assam Rifles and suspected Kuki militants.
At least 10 suspected KNF (B) militants were killed in the encounter which took place on Indo-Myanmar border near New Samtal village, Khengjoy sub-division, Chandel district on May 14 .
After the exchange of fire ceased, a thorough combing operation was carried out in the area leading to the recovery of the arms and ammunition, said a press release issued by Hqs IG AR (South).
Preliminary assessment suggests that the slain militants were known for involvement in cross-border insurgent activity.
Efforts are underway to confirm their identities, it added.
