More condemn, demand justice

As many as 24 organisations/groups have condemned the killing of a well known guitarist Chongtham Vikram by a group of people at Kilokari New Delhi on September 9 .
Those who expressed their outrage over the killing are Apunba Manipur Kanba Lup (AMKIL), All Manipur Women's Social Reformation & Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj), All Manipur Tammi Chingmi Apunba Nupi Lup (Tammi Chingmi), Manipuri Chanura Leishem Marup (Macha Leima), Ereipak Enat Chanura Loinsilon (EECHAL), Nongpok Leingak Apunba Nupi Lup (NLANL), Nongchup Imphal Palem Ima Apunba Lup (NIMPAL), Thoubal District United Women's Organisation (Thoubal Ima), Apunba Nupi Lup (ANUL) Bishnupur, Extra-Judicial Execution Victims Family Association Manipur (EEVFAM), Khwairamband Keithel Semgat Sagat Lup (KKSSL), Phouoibi Ima Keithel Women's Vendors Welfare Union (PIKWVO), Paona Keithel Women's Welfare Organisation (PKWWO), United People's Front (UPF) Manipur, National Identity Protection Council (NIPCO), Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA), Manipur Peace & Integrity Council (MAPI Council), All Manipur Progressive Farmers Association (AMPFA), All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU), Advance Women's Society (AWS) Awang Sekmai, Meitei Council Moreh (MCM), Kha Nongpok Apunba Nupi Lup (KNANL) Moreh, Nupi Samaj Churachandpur and Ima Leimarel Churachandpur.
In a joint statement, these organisations and groups said that people from mainland India continue to discriminate against fellow Indians with Mongoloid features, despite artistes and sportspersons from the region bringing laurels to the country.
Many people from the region, including students, have been subjected to racial harassment, while several have been killed in metropolitan cities across the country, it said.
Despite the often repeated slogan of "Unity in Diversity", people in mainland India continue to treat those from the North East unequally, it added.
The organisations urged the Manipur Government to mount pressure on the Centre to ensure a swift investigation into the killing of Chongtham Vikram and take action against the perpetrators in accordance with the law.
They also shared the pain and grief of the bereaved family.
