JD(U) demands full-fledged district status for Moreh

Imphal, April 13 2015 : Janata Dal (United) state unit has demanded full-fledged district status for Moreh, Jiribam and Sadar Hills.

The inconvenience faced by the people of these areas prompted the party to make this demand.

A press meet was held in this regard at JD (U) office today at Babupara.

President M Tombi said that the residents of Moreh have been facing many inconveniences when it comes to urgent works due to the vast distant between the area and present district headquarters at Chandel town.

Even though there are important offices at Moreh such as Mini Secretariat, ADC office, fire service station, etc, residents still have to travel all the way upto Chandel town to get their works done.

And the long distance, pathetic road condition and the high transportation charges are a great hindrance to the people.

Students and old age pensioners have to spend around Rs 700 each to get there.

M Tombi appealed to the state government to declare a proper district status at the earliest as it will be the main centre in respect to Look East Policy and Trans Asian Highway Project.

He also demanded a proper DDO for the social welfare office at Moreh.

It may be mentioned that in the absence of a DDO, the office which was inaugurated by Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai in November 2012 is almost functionless.

The JD (U) president also demanded that similar problem is faced by the residents of Jiribam also, who have to come to Imphal East district headquarters, facing the inconvenience of the infamous Imphal-Jiri road, to get their important works done.

He also made similar demand for Sadar Hills also, and mentioned that, the process to declare Sadar Hills as a full-fledged district was almost completed during the Chief Ministership of W Nipamacha, until some last-minute inconvenience made it impossible.

On the other hand, speaking about the recent inconveniences faced by the old-aged pensioners in order to claim their pensions, M Tombi suggested the state government to deliver the pensions to the elderly at their doorstep, most preferably through post office or an alternative.

The JD (U) president also wished the people of Manipur prosperity and peace on the occasion of Cheiraoba.
