Sit-in protests continue across Thoubal, Bishnupur over arrest of Asem Kanan

Thoubal, June 12 2025:
Demanding unconditional and immediate release of Arambai Tenggol, fighting commander Asem Kanan who was arrested by the CBI on June 7, womenfolk across Thoubal and Bishnupur district staged protest demonstrations at various locations.
At Thoubal district, the Kekru Yairi Club Yairipok (KYCY) in collaboration with Kekru Mathak Leikai Meira Paibi organised a sit-in protest demonstration at Kekru Yairi Club premises condemning the arrest of Asem Kanan by the CBI on June 7 .
During the protest, placards with inscriptions like, "We condemn arrest of AT volunteers", "We condemn arrest of Asem Kanan", "Release Asem Kanan immediately without any condition", "Long Live Manipur", etc were held with similar slogans being raised.
Speaking at the sideline of the protest, a Meira Paibi leader who took part in the protest stated that the sit-in demonstration was organised in condemnation against the arrest of Asem Kanan by the CBI.
She said that Arambai Tenggol volunteers have come forward to protect and save the State from Kuki narco-terrorists since the eruption of the violence in the State on May 3, 2023 .
Stating that Arambai Tenggol is not a terrorist organisation, she said that Arambai Tenggol emerged as an organisation to safeguard the territory of Manipur and for the preservation of culture and tradition of Manipur.
She also called for the release of Asem Kanan immediately without any conditions.
Meanwhile, Meira Paibis of Yairipok Bamol Leikai, Thoubal district also staged sit-in protest at Yairipok Leikai Laibung Community Hall demanding the release of arrested Arambai Tenggol, fighting commander Asem Kanan who was arrested by the CBI.
At the protest, placards with inscriptions like, "We condemn arrest of AT leaders,", "We condemn arrest of Tengollois", "Release Asem Kanan immediately without any condition, etc were used and similar slogans were raised by the protesters.
In Bishnupur district, 8 Meira Paibi Lup of Ngaikhong Khunou, Keinou, Yumnam Khunou, Irengbam, Oinam, Heinoubok, Leimaram and Waroiching under Oinam Assembly Constituency staged a sit-in protest demonstration at Oinam Bazar demanding release of Asem Kanan, who was arrested by the CBI on June 7 .
During the protest, one protester named Sumila stated that the arrest of Arambai Tenggol volunteers who have come out to protect and safeguard the territory of Manipur is condemned at the strongest term.
She also urged the Government of India to stop politicising the matter by playing divide and rule policy, and called for restoration of peace in the State.
