Imphal, October 11 2025:
Congress MP Dr Bimol Akoijam has stated that many BJP MLAs will soon leave their party and join other parties by 'masking their faces'.
A signature campaign on Vote Chor, Gaddi Chor was held today at Ima Ireima premises, Pishumthong Oinam Leikai within Keishamthong Assembly segment today.
Notably, a signature campaign on Vote Chor, Gaddi Chor has been going on at the National level under the leadership of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
Speaking at the signature campaign, Dr Bimol Akoijam remarked that the BJP MLAs exerting pressure on Central leaders to let them form a popular Government is a matter of utter shame and added that many BJP MLAs have geared up to desert the saffron party and join other parties.
He claimed that the Congress party is a political party which has a clear political ideology and leaders who can engage with India's politics meaningfully.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi must know that he is the Prime Minister of the country, not of BJP alone.
Modi's sheer arrogance and indifference towards the people of Manipur is rather unfortunate, Dr Bimol said.
He accused the BJP Government of defaming democracy and violating the country's Constitution.
The Vote Chor, Gaddi Chor campaign was launched to save India's Constitution and democracy, the Lok Sabha Member said.
CLP leader and former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi asserted that there will be neither peace nor stability in Manipur until and unless there is a Congress Government in the State.
He said that BJP sees the people of Manipur as sub-humans.
The schemes announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent visit to the State are schemes which would be taken up out of the annual normal budget allocation entitled to the State, Ibobi said.
Narendra Modi was befooling the people of Manipur by speaking in such a manner that the Centre loves Manipur and several schemes would be taken up with substantial amounts of money given by the Centre, the CLP leader said.
Construction of the Manipur Civil Secretariat inaugurated by the Prime Minister recently was completed by 70-80 per cent during the Congress Government.
Even furniture items were already purchased, he said.
The Civil Secretariat was constructed by the Congress Government with just 10 per cent of the estimated cost funded by the Planning Commission.
The Congress Government did not take any loan to build the Civil Secretariat but the BJP Government has been working to complete the project with a huge loan, Ibobi said.
The report that the BJP Government took loans amounting to over Rs 20,000 crore in the name of the State's development works is a matter of grave concern, the former Chief Minister said.
Saying that BJP's dictatorial Government has ruined Manipur, Ibobi pointed out that the BJP Government has not been holding local body elections for a long time including Panchayats and Autonomous District Councils.
With the BJP Government not holding local body elections in time, these bodies have been taken as non-functional and as such, no funds have been sanctioned to them.
This can severely impede or delay the State's development, the former Chief Minister said.
Saying that it's time to teach BJP a befitting lesson, Ibobi asserted that illegal immigrants would be detected and sent back to their native countries in case the Congress party is elected to power.
Deputy CLP leader K Ranjit claimed that unlike BJP, Congress party never works at the mercy or whims of Central leaders.
It is a matter of shame that BJP MLAs, despite having more than enough strength to form a Government, were camping at Delhi seeking the Central leaders' permission to let them form a Government, Ranjit said.
Rather than begging the Central leaders to let them form a Government, file BJP MLAs may hold a press conference at the National capital and boldly declare they quit BJP for they have not been allowed to form a Government, Ranjit continued.
"If they can make such a bold declaration, we would wait for their return at Imphal with flowers and garlands", Ranjit said.
Saying that all the BJP MLAs of Manipur are cowards, the deputy CLP leader disclosed that he felt ashamed when the people scolded the State's MLAs.
Former Minister L Jayantakumar said that the BJP MLAs were camping at Delhi not to ease the people's suffering but to amass money for use in the 2027 State Assembly election by forming a Government He said that BJP, NPP and RPI(A) are all partners of NDA and all of them have similar outlooks.
MLA Th Lokeshwar and Sagolband BCC member Dr Kh Loken were also present at the event.
