Imphal, June 11 2025:
The Khwairamband Ima Keithel Joint Co-ordinating Committee for Peace (KIKJCCP) has alleged that the crackdown and arrest of Arambai Tenggol (AT) leaders and volunteers who had surrendered their arms to the Governor were aimed at diverting attention from the Gwaltabi incident, where a Manipur signage on a State Transport bus was 'forcibly' concealed.
Addressing the media at Khwairamband Keithel today, KIKJCCP co-convenor Laishram Mema condemned the President's Rule Government in Manipur for arresting AT volunteers who had surrendered their arms to the Governor, alleging that the move is a clear attempt to shift focus from the Gwaltabi issue.
She demanded unconditional release of the AT volunteers.
Mema, meanwhile, questioned the alleged Governor's inaction when security forces ordered the concealment of the word "Manipur" inscribed on a State Transport bus operating within the State's territory.
Will the Indian Government willingly accept if Manipur is erased from India's map, she asked.
She cautioned that the Governor's inaction on the Gwaltabi issue could lead to calls for him to step down as the incident challenged the identity of Manipur.
Democracy has no meaning in Manipur, she stated, claiming that the situation in the State is even worse than Myanmar's military rule.
She also appealed to the BJP MLAs to take necessary steps to either form a popular Government or pave the way for fresh elections.
