Imphal, May 10 2025:
The United Committee Manipur (UCM) president YK Dhiren has urged the Government of India to expedite the fencing of Indo-Myanmar border without encroaching on Manipur's land.
He made the demand during the inauguration ceremony of the UCM's Lamlai unit office at Chalou, Lamlai Keithel, today.
Addressing the function as chief guest, Dhiren emphasized that fencing the international border should not compromise even an inch of Manipur's land.
He further stated that BRO/BRTF must understand the sentiment of the people of Manipur and complete the border fencing work as soon as possible.
Safeguarding the idea of Manipur, unity, and territorial integrity of the State is everyone's responsibility, Dhiren asserted.
He went on to state that the UCM members have met with the Surveyor General of India and they have conducted multiple inspections of the disputed sites along with BRO/BRTF officials and border village residents.
Saying that the Manipuri people had protected their land themselves before merging with India, he maintained that the Government of India now has the responsibility to protect Manipur's land and prevent illegal immigration.
Countries worldwide make significant efforts to curb illegal immigration and cross-border terrorism, Dhiren noted, claiming that India, however, has put Manipur's people in a difficult situation.
He said that the crisis in Manipur, which began on May 3, 2023, stemmed from the influx of illegal immigration.
The programme was also attended by UCM general secretary N Shanta and its Lamlai unit chairman H Sitaljit.
UCM, meanwhile, conducted an anti rabies vaccination programme at Takyel Khonbal Mayai as a part of its mass vaccination drive yesterday.
