Vikram's remains reach Imphal, cremated

Imphal, September 09 2026:
The mortal remains of Chongtham Vikram, who died after being assaulted by a group of men in Delhi, reached Imphal today, and the last rites were held at his birth place at Thangmeiband Lourungpurel Leikai.
The remains of the renowned guitarist was received at the Imphal Airport by members of the public, including family members and friends.
His remains were then taken to his birthplace at Thangmeiband Lourung-purel Leikai, where the last rites were held.

Notably, Chongtham Vikram, 55, was brutally assaulted by a group of men at his residence in Kilokri, New Delhi on September 6.He died a day later at a hospital in Delhi.
While the assault that led to his death is being investigated, Delhi police have arrested seven persons, including a minor.
Many civil bodies in Manipur and other North East States have urged the Central Government and the Delhi police for swift investigation, and called for stringent punishment of the persons involved in the crime.
