One shot dead, NRFM claims hand

Imphal, September 04 2026: A man was shot dead by unidentified persons at Langjing hills on the way between Angom Leikai and Kangla Sangomshang, Imphal East district under Lamlai police station.

Some commuters came across the body early this morning.

Later, a police team picked up the dead body and deposited it at JNIMS mortuary.

Meanwhile, a suo moto case has been registered at Lamlai police station in connection with the killing.

On the other hand, the National Revolutionary Front Manipur (NRFM) has claimed that it shot dead one Waikhom Athoi alias Shidaba s/o W Shital of Khabam Mayai Leikai in between Kangla Sangomshang and Angom Leikai at 12.03 am today.

A press release issued by the outfit's information and publicity secretary Sanajaoba Meitei said that Athoi alias Shidaba was awarded capital punishment for his anti-party and anti-social activities.

Athoi alias Shidaba was a cadre of the Manipur Army (MA), the armed wing of NRFM but he deserted his camp on January 19, 2026 along with a weapon and surrendered to the army.

Following his surrender, he was lodged in jail for four months and he started extortion activities in association with some miscreants, said the outfit.

Even after he was advised repeatedly, he continued with his anti-social and anti-party activities.

For the last time, he was summoned by the party (NRFM) on August 19, 2026 .

However, instead of coming to the party, Athoi alias Shidaba went into hiding.

The outfit said that Athoi alias Shidaba was awarded capital punishment for his unpardonable anti-party and anti-social activities.
