Imphal, September 02 2025:
A death of a 57 year old at RIMS last night sparked a protest, with an irate crowd storming the hospital.
Yengkhom Kehso, a resident of Sekta Mayai Leikai in Lamlai Constituency, was taken to RIMS on August 31 (Sunday) after suffering a BP stroke, according to the family.
They alleged that the hospital, however, showed negligence and refused to treat the patient, citing a holiday.
A Joint Action Committee (JAC) has been formed in connection with the incident, and they have refused to claim the body until the issue is resolved.
Speaking to the media, JAC convenor Yengkhom Noinoisana claimed that Yengkhom Kehso was taken to RIMS Hospital on August 31 at around 10.30 am, but he wasn't treated, allegedly due to the day being a Sunday.
Questioning the hospital's policy, he asked if there is any rule that RIMS doesn't treat patients on Sunday.
He further asked if the hospital authority is going to let people die if they need emergency care on Sundays.
The JAC convenor stated that they will not claim the body until the matter is resolved with the hospital authorities' involvement.
