Governor, CM, Speaker greet people on Yaoshang

Imphal, March 02 2026: Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, several MLAs and organisations have sent their greetings to the people of the State on Yaoshang festival.

On this auspicious occasion, I call upon everyone to celebrate the festival in the true spirit of mutual respect, peace and brotherhood.

May Yaoshang festival bring happiness, prosperity, and renewed hope in the State, Bhalla said in his message to the people.

"From the sacred ritual of Yaoshang Mei Thaba to the rhythmic elegance of Thabal Chongba, the celebration comes alive with vibrant cultural performances and soulful devotional music--strengthening bonds of friendship, unity, and harmony across communities," said the Governor.

Chief Minister Y Khemchand greeted the people and said, "Yaoshang, celebrated for five days starting from the full-moon day of the lunar month of Lamta, signals the coming of spring, ushering in the birth of new beginnings...

I greet the people of my State on the occasion of Yaoshang" .

The Yaoshang festival provides a platform for social bonding for people from all communities and walks of life.

May the festival bring emotional integrity and further strengthen the age-old bonding among the various communities in the State, said the Chief Minister.

Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker, Th Satyabrata also greeted the people and wished for the festival to bring joy and unity.

On this joyous festival of Yaoshang, let us remember that the burning of Holika is a timeless call to burn away hatred, violence and division, he said in his message.

"The conflict that has wounded Manipur is like Holika devouring children, threatening the very innocence and future of our land...

As Lord Krishna once protected the children from Holika fire, may divine grace now protect the children of Manipur.

May peace return to our motherland and may this Yaoshang inspire us to embrace compassion, forgiveness and love," Satyabrata said.

MLA T Robindro too greeted the people and said "Yaoshang Mei Thaba" marks the victory of good over evil.

Yaoshang sports events play a vital role in channelling the energy of "our youth" toward discipline, excellence, and a drug-free society, Robindro said.

MLA K Meghachandra too greeted the people on Yaoshang.

Several organisations, including the All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) and Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) have also greeted the people on Yaoshang.

While wishing for Yaoshang to foster peaceful coexistence of communities, AMSU urged youth to celebrate the festival consciously.

It urged youths to refrain from using intoxicants, and advised them against blocking roads for monetary donations and organising Thabal Chongba beyond the 5-day period in view of the Class X and Class XII examinations.

Greeting the people, CADA encouraged local clubs and organisations to hold sports events during the festival, and advised youths to refrain from using alcohol and other intoxicants.
