GIS for healthcare facilities launched

GIS (Geographical Information System) mapping for monitoring healthcare facilities of Imphal West and Imphal East districts was launched today by Health Services Director Dr Chambo Gonmei.
Launching the GIS mapping system at a function held today at the conference hall of State Health Society, National Health Mission (NHM), Lamphelpat, Dr Chambo Gonmei distributed diagnostic equipment to different Urban Public Health Centre-Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (UPHC-AAM) including JNIMS.
Apart from Health Services Director Dr Chambo Gonmei, the function was attended by Family Welfare Services Director Dr N Hemantakumar, Health Services Additional Director (MD) Dr N Bino Singh, NHM Manipur State Mission Director Dr M Dinesh, CMOs of Imphal East and Imphal West and MOs of different UPHCs .
Speaking at the function, Dr Chambo Gonmei said that the GIS mapping system was being launched for the first time to monitor healthcare facilities in Imphal East and Imphal West.
Apart from monitoring healthcare facilities in the Imphal area, the GIS mapping system will help in listing the requirements of these healthcare facilities and in making up the requirements through proper planning, Dr Chambo Gonmei said.
The diagnostic equipment distributed today will also help in diagnosing different medical problems at the UPHCs including JNIMS, he said.
Laboratory technicians would be appointed for the remaining UPHCs which do not have the required technicians.
Once the technicians are appointed, diagnostic equipment would be distributed to these UPHCs too, the Health Director said.
These equipment would be tagged and monitored.
After the Imphal area is fully covered by the GIS mapping system, the same system would be introduced in rural areas too, he said.
