Gopal cremated: JAC vows to continue agitations till culprits are booked

Imphal, May 08 2015 : The mortal remains of M.Gopal, the victim of the May 5 indiscriminate firings at Aimol Satu were consigned to flames on Friday evening at Pallel Mayai Leikai.

The JAC and family members brought the dead body to the UKAL office in Imphal where people paid floral tributes.

On the way several persons had come out along the highway to pay their last respects to the victim of the unprovoked firing on May 5 night during a religious function at Aimol Satu.

A spokesman of the JAC said that since the religious function was suspended as a result of the dead body it was claimed in public interest.

The state wide strike is withdrawn.

However the agitations by the JAC shall continue.

The Aimol community had given punitive fine on the condition that admitting the crime an assurance will be given through press that the incident shall not be repeated.

As it is not done till date the punitive fine shall be refunded to the Aimol community.

With this it should be clear that there is no agreement on the JAC put on the Aimol community.

JAC wants to know the identity of the owner of the gun.

The government should take up appropriate actions against the arrested person and his accomplices within three days.

JAC and people shall continue agitations till concrete steps are taken up.

Meanwhile, the Joint Non Government Voluntary Organisation imposed a strike on the Kakching market on Friday in support of the JAC agitations.

All shops were closed down and commercial activities were ground to a halt in the market.

Besides no vehicles were allowed to ply.

People also staged a sit in protest in connection with the May 5 incident.

Pallel curfew relaxed from 6 am to 5 pm today
The district magistrate of Thoubal district, T Ranjit, in an order issued on Friday has relaxed curfew in the trouble prone areas from 6 am to 5 pm on Saturday (May 9).This is to enable the members of public to buy essential commodities.

The indefinite curfew was imposed in the trouble prone areas following the Pallel shootings on May 5 night.

The district magistrate took into consideration the fact that the JAC formed in connection with the death of a person in the firing incident had claimed the dead body for the last rites with the announcement that the agitations would be suspended after the formal cremation.

During the curfew relaxation traders and tourists who have been stranded at Moreh since the trouble began will return to Imphal.

However the curfew will be clamped again after 5 pm on Saturday till further orders.
