Students, Meira Paibis unlock DESAM head office

Imphal, May 28 2025: The head office of the Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) at Kwakeithel, which was locked and sealed by a team of police on Tuesday has been reopened by volunteers of the students' body and local Meira Paibi on Wednesday.

After unlocking the office, DESAM Bishnupur District Council president Oinam Mona told media persons that the DESAM office was put under lock and seal by a police team on Tuesday afternoon without any explanation.

Strongly condemning the excessive act of police, she said DESAM is a pressure group working for the welfare of the people particularly student community.

It is responsibility of the students and other organisations to awaken leaders and administrators, she said and ridiculed concept and conduct of the Manipur police to suppress students by locking office of a students' body.

According to Mona, Governor AK Bhalla has to tender apology to the people of Manipur on the Gwaltabi incident and top administrators of the state including chief secretary, DGP and security advisor should resign on moral ground.

Locking the DESAM head office and threatening COCOMI students' front cannot resolve the issue, she reminded.

Condemning locking of the DESAM head office by police, a Meira Paibi leader of Kwakeithel informed media persons that locking office of a student's body cannot solve the present issue and police must stop such acts in future.

She also said that Meira Paibis of Kwakeithel area will always support DESAM .
