Imphal, June 24 2025:
Congress MLA Th Lokeshwar stated that Union Home Minister Amit Shah's remark that government formation in Manipur is not possible until there is harmony between Kukis and Meeteis, is not only irresponsible, but also implies that he sees State BJP MLAs as insignificant, despite their party being in power and his responsibility to resolve the two-year-long crisis.
A felicitation ceremony for the meritorious students of UNACCO School, Chanung, who secured high marks in the recently declared Class X and XII examinations, was held at the school on Tuesday.
Responding to media queries on the sidelines of the event, MLA Lokeshwar criticised Amit Shah's recent remarks, stating that they reflect his disregard for the state BJP MLAs, likening them to "worms inside fig fruit".
He asserted that the appropriate course of action for Amit Shah would be to step down from as Home Minister and replacement by someone more competent and capable of fulfilling responsibilities of the role effectively.
Amit Shah's remarks reflect a deep disregard for the people of Manipur, treating them as insignificant and unworthy of dignity.
Such language is unbecoming of a leader and contradicts the basic respect one should show towards fellow citizens.
His statement that a popular government cannot be formed in Manipur unless there is love between the Meeteis and the Kukis, tantamount to skirting responsibility.
Rather than taking concrete steps to resolve the crisis and restore peace, he is effectively leaving the matter entirely to the state and telling the people to do as they please, Lokeshwar maintained.
The MLA further said that the statement made by the Home Minister is deeply inappropriate and is condemned in the strongest possible manner.
