MMTU urges to waive loans, cut flight fares

Along with highlighting plight of the people affected by the ongoing conflict, Meetei (Meitei) Tribe Union (MMTU) has submitted memorandums to authorities concerned for waiving loans of borrowers affected by the crisis, as well as exemptions from taxes and GST and reduction in flight fares during this difficult times.
According to a statement, a delegation from the MMTU met with officials of Reserve Bank of India and submitted a memorandum outlining challenges faced by the people, particularly borrowers, amid the crisis.
It highlighted that the unrest situation has led to economic collapse, severely impacting businesses, industries and agriculture.
Prices of essential commodities have skyrocketed, leaving borrowers unable to repay both principal sum and interest on their loans.
The MMTU emphasised the urgent need for the finance ministry to provide an economic relief package.
MMTU also submitted a memorandum to the chairman of the National Commission for Minorities urging to apprise the Civil Aviation Ministry to reduce flight fares during this crisis, as air travel has become the only means of transportation for large section of the population.
