JAC threatens Imphal-Dimapur road block

Imphal, August 20 2025:
The JAC formed in connection with the death of a woman at RIMS Hospital, she was undergoing treatment for a broken leg and scheduled for surgery, has threatened to shut down the Imphal-Dimapur highway from Thursday afternoon if RIMS authorities fail to deliver justice in the case.
A public meeting was held at Awang Sekmai Laipat Leikai Bhamol Mandap on Wednesday during which the JAC against the death of Laishram ningol Hijam Ongbi Ibemcha' was formed.
Addressing the media at the meeting venue, JAC convenor Ahongsangbam Ashokumar recalled that Ibemcha had been undergoing treatment for a broken leg since August 13.On Tuesday, she was prescribed some medicines ahead of an operation but passed away shortly after.
Along with formation of the JAC, the meeting adopted various resolutions including blockading of the Imphal-Dimapur road from 1 pm of Thursday if the director of RIMS does not honour the demands placed by noon; not claiming the body lying at RIMS Morgue; setting up a Fixed Deposit of Rs 50,000 each for Ibemcha's two kids; legal action against the doctor (s) responsible; and video coverage of the post-mortem examination conducted in the presence of a retired judge.
A memorandum containing the demands would be submitted to the RIMS director, with the deadline set at noon, he disclosed.
Mention may be made here that the family of the deceased has already filed a complaint to Lamphel police station.
Ibemcha's body, meanwhile, is being kept at RIMS Morgue for post-mortem examination.
