Imphal, June 19 2025:
RPI-A Manipur State Committee president Maheshwar Thounaojam has questioned whether Manipur has been divided into hill and valley under President's Rules, and if so, inform the people so that they can take their own decision on the matter.
Speaking to media persons on Thursday on the sidelines of visiting Ningthoujam Biren, who is undergoing treatment at RIMS after he was shot at by suspected Kuki militants in Phubala area on Thursday, Maheshwar claimed local farmers started agricultural activities in Phubala after assurance from central security forces that the area is secure from any attack.
The incident cannot be taken lightly as it happened after assurance by central forces, he said, and pointed out the attack by Kuki militants after weapons were surrendered in the valley under the PR administration raises serious question whether there is any secret agenda at play.
He further opined that as the state forces are not authorised to operate in the hills, they could neither pursue the militants involved in the attack nor investigate the matter.
Claiming that present situation indicates that the state has been divided into with the hills controlled by central security forces and the state forces confined in the valley, Maheshwar emphasised that the government should clarify to the public if this is division is true.
He further appealed to the Governor to take firm action in the Phubala incident and address sufferings of the people.
