Lup observes World Farmers Day

As celebrated across the globe, Loumee Yaipha Lup, Kangleipak (LOYALUP) observed World Farmers Day at Manipur Press Club on Wednesday.
The celebration was graced by Rajkumar Rameshwar Singh, Managing Director, RK Fortune Developers Pvt Ltd as the chief guest; Yurembam Tiken Singh, president, LOYALUP, Kangleipak as the functional president; Kh Nimaichand Singh, Project Officer, MOVCD (NER), Department of Agriculture; Dr T Basanta Singh, Senior Soil Scientist, ICAR, Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat and Thongbam Ibotombi Singh, Associate Professor, DM College of Arts, DM University as the guests of honour.
Speaking as the chief guest, Rajkumar Rameshwar Singh said that the International Federation of Agricultural Producers (IFAP) declared May 14 as World Farmers Day in accordance with a decision taken during the general board meeting held on May 14, 1984 .
IFAP was set up in Paris, France in 1946 .
The observation of World Farmers Day reminds people of the importance of the farming profession and to address the challenges faced by farmers worldwide, he added.
Advocating for increased crop yield and self-reliance in food production, he urged the relevant Government department to take up steps for fanners' welfare.
Highlighting the use of imported pesticides in the cultivation of crops in the valley regions, he advised farmers to follow the suggestions of experts while using such chemicals for health reasons.
