Imphal, July 13 2024:
Chingu Pangalba Social Welfare Association president Ningthoujam Rashanta has said that residents of Phayeng village in Imphal West district do not oppose the plan to construct an oil depot at 59-Kharang Sanjabung and urged the government to go ahead with the plan.
According to Rashanta, the survey for construction of an oil depot at 59-Kharang Sanjabung had already been done in 2022 and the land does not belong to Kangchup.
Government officials led by SDC Lamsang along with Lamsang police came for land demarcation on July 11 but unable to complete the demarcation process due to intervention by residents of Kangchup, he said, adding that 59-Kharang Sanjabung does not belong to Kangchup and the land belongs to Phayeng since time immemorial.
Addressing media persons at the Association's office on Saturday, Rashanta said that the oil depot is to be constructed underground but the area could be developed as a large garden and this will give economic opportunities to the local people.
He then appealed to people not to oppose construction of the oil depot to be taken up jointly by the state government and Oil Corporation of India.
