Imphal, August 11 2025:
Keirao MLA Lourembam Rameshwar has underscored the urgent need for dedicated leadership amid the prevailing scenario in the state.
"A new leader who can work with dedication for the people of Manipur is the need of the hour," the MLA stated while attending a poetry recitation programme on Sunday.
The event, organised by Khonthang News under the theme "A Tribute to the Patriots", was held at the Junction Restaurant at Heirangoithong Ningthemcha Karong.
Speaking as chief guest, Ra meshwar called for instilling patriotism in children from an early age, adding that elders have a responsibility to teach the younger generation about patriotism and unity.
He recalled historical divisions created when Shantidas Gosai spread Hinduism and when the British took control of Manipur during internal royal disputes, stating that these lessons should not be forgotten.
The MLA expressed disappointment over the state's economic performance, stating that hopes for improvement under the second BJP government had been shattered.
He said that the inability to form a popular government is partly due to around seven to eight MLAs vying for the post of chief minister, resulting in political instability and poor governance.
He further said that the lack of a dedicated and selfless leader has contributed to the state's decline.
"If the people of Manipur want to get rid of their current suffering, they need a leader who will work with dedication for the public," Rameshwar said.
Chief editor of Kangleipakki Meira and former AMWJU president Wangkhemcha Samjai presided over the function, attended by 25 writers.
IPSA president M Bisheshor and UPF advisor L Jadumani were present as guests of honour.
